The world of video games spans generations, platforms, and genres, producing masterpieces that leave lasting impressions regardless of their age. Everybody has different opinions, so please remember these are just my opinions and ratings. Everybody loves different genres of games and thats the beauty of gaming that we love and support so please ENJOY!

Number 10:
God of war Franchise

God of war is one of the most legendary franchises everywhere. The franchise created by David Jaffe and developed by Sony’s Santa Monica Studio. It began in 2005 on playstation 2 and since then, it has become a flagship title for the Playstation brand.

God of war has 2 eras:

Greek Era:  God of War (2005), God of War II (2007) and God of War III (2010)

Norse Era: God of war (2018) and God of War Ragnarok (2022)

Games in the series have been praised as some of the best action games of all time. The series has received numerous awards, including several Game of the Year recognitions for the 2005 and 2018 installments. Some games have also been remastered for newer PlayStation platforms. The franchise has sold an estimated 66+ million games worldwide, and is PlayStation’s most profitable first-party brand. 

The God of War games are loved because they are unique, compelling, emotionally-driven narrative, weighty and satisfying combat, stunning visuals and graphics, and a well-crafted, immersive world that encourages exploration. The games are also praised for their phenomenal voice acting, exceptional music and epic boss fights. The future is looking bright for the game as there are rumours for in development god of war games.

Number 9: Halo Franchise

Halo games are the iconic games that started FPS, originally developed by Bungie and currently managed and developed by Halo Studios (previously 343 Industries), part of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios. The series launched in November 2001 with the first-person shooter video game Halo: Combat Evolved and the rest became history. This cemented itself in the gaming history forever and this led to multiple halo games being developed. This is the list of all halo games developed.

Halo cemented Microsoft as a major competitor in the video game console space, and its sequels pioneered online matchmaking and social features which made everyone love it as people could play it together. The games have sold more than 81 million copies worldwide. Halo is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, with more than $6 billion in franchise sale.

But in the last few years, halo has lost its momentum and their audience has moved onto other games, waiting for their updates about their games. The last game that everybody loved was halo 3 which was more than a decade ago. The latest game which was halo infinite launched with lots of bugs but now it has improved and is considered a good game but by the time many people had moved onto other games so it left a bad impression on a lot of game. But now the studio has rebranded to Halo Studios and has moved to Unreal Engine. The future is not bright but we still hope that one day it can get back to the peak it was in the 2000s.

Number 8: Uncharted Franchise

Uncharted is an action-adventure video game franchise created by Amy Hennig, developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment that released in 2007 for the playstation 3.

Uncharted is one of the most unique and best franchises. It follows the story of group of treasure hunters who travel across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. The main protagonist is Nathan Drake.

Main Games in the Uncharted series : Drake’s Fortune (2007), Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009), Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011), and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016)

Standalone spin off: Uncharted The Lost Legacy (2017)

Handheld Spin-offs: Uncharted Golden Abyss (2011) and Uncharted: Fight for Fortune (2012)

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016) is widely considered the best in the series, praised for its emotional cinematic storytelling, character development, improved graphics, improved gameplay, and a fitting, grounded sendoff to Nathan Drake. However, some fans argue that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the best due to its perfect pacing, classic set pieces, and thrilling action-adventure story.

While Naughty Dog is done with Nathan Drake’s story, there is considerable interest from PlayStation and within the studio for more Uncharted adventures, potentially featuring Cassie Drake or with new characters.

Number 7: Resident evil Franchise

Resident Evil, known as Biohazard (ใƒใ‚คใ‚ชใƒใ‚ถใƒผใƒ‰, Baiohazฤdo) in Japan, is a Japanese horror game series and media franchise created by Capcom. It consists of survival horror- third-person shooter and first-person shooter games, with players surviving in environments inhabited by zombies and other mutated creatures. The franchise has expanded into media including a live-action film series, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audiobooks, and merchandise. Resident Evil is among the highest-grossing horror franchises. The first Resident Evil game was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara for PlayStation, and released in 1996.

There is a large amount of resident evil games released but a lot of remakes have been done which were a massive success so these are the main games of the franchise in chronological order

These games are one of the best horror games on the market and they have a bright future ahead. The next Resident evil 9 titled Resident Evil Requiem, and it is confirmed to be in development, with a release date of February 27, 2026 with the biggest budget ever in the franchise. I am excited foir their future!

Number 6: Resident evil redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a 2018 action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. The game is the  prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. The story is set in a fictionalized representation of the United States in 1899 and follows the exploits of Arthur Morgan, an outlaw and member of the Van der Linde gang, who must face the challenges of a declining Wild West, while attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other adversaries. The player can freely roam its interactive open world. Gameplay elements include shootouts, robberies, hunting, horseback riding, interacting with characters, and maintaining the character’s honor rating through moral choices and deeds. A bounty system governs the response of law enforcement and bounty hunters to crimes committed by the player.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) is a significant success, having sold over 77 million copies worldwide, making it the sixth best-selling video game of all time as of late 2025. Its success stems from its immersive open world, deep narrative, strong character development, and exceptional attention to detail. The game also demonstrates enduring popularity, remaining a top downloaded title and a cultural landmark years after its 2018 release.  

It is one of the most unique and has one of the best story telling ever. it is very emotionally compelling and grabs you by the heart by the end. It is one of the only games where I had tears coming out of my eyes.

The future for red dead series is uncertain but there is a chance for another entry in the series by some rumours and when Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, referred to the Red Dead series as “permanent,” indicating it will continue which i hope is true because it is one of my favourite games.

Number 5: Minecraft

Minecraft was created in 2009 and officially released in 2011; it became a phenomenon due to its creative sandbox gameplay, community support, and unique visual style. The sandbox structure allows players to build, explore, and craft in a procedurally generated world, appealing to varied playstyles. Modding, multiplayer servers, and online content creation fueled a vibrant ecosystem, with YouTube and Twitch amplifying its reach. Its blocky, pixel-art graphics made it instantly recognizable and required low system resources, allowing wide accessibility.

As of October 2025, Minecraft had sold well over 300 million copies across all platforms, making it the best-selling game ever. The game have a diverse, multi-generational user base and is played worldwide.

Minecraft future is strong, its fuelled by a strong community that has so much love for the game which will never let the game die. Mojang continues to update the game with new features and expansions keeps people engaged.

Number 4: Grand Theft Auto 5

Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV. The Story mode is set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, the single-player story follows three protagonists retired bank robber Michael De Santa (Ned Luke), street gangster Franklin Clinton (Shawn Fonteno), and drug dealer and gunrunner Trevor Philips (Steven Ogg) and their attempts to commit heists while under pressure from a corrupt government agency and powerful criminals. Players freely roam San Andreas’s open world countryside and fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles. In online mode you can do heists own businesses, do missions, do races and much more with you friends and customise your character, buy houses, buy cars and MUCH MORE.

GTA 5 Was a Success because of:

โ€ข Production: Record-breaking development and marketing budgets produced top-tier visuals, storytelling, humor, audio, and technical polish.

Gta 5 Sales are over 215 million copies sold as of October 2025, making it the second-best-selling video game ever (after Minecraft). Their revenue is over $10 billion in combined revenue from game sales and microtransactions in GTA Online, making it the most profitable single entertainment product ever. Gta 5 has ranked consistenly top 10 sales rankings for more than a decade, with ongoing in-game events and updates sustaining its popularity across generations

Gta franchise has the most exciting future. Gta 6 has been confirmed and will launch on May 26, 2026 and has been reported to have the budget of $2 billion and has the most hype out of any game that has ever came out.

Number 3: Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a 2022 action role-playing game directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Set in the Lands Between, players control a customizable player character on a quest to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord.

Elden Ringโ€™s open world design revolutionised the Soulslike formula, offering vast interconnected landscapes, a horseback travel system, and seamless exploration without restrictive quest markers.The collaboration with George R. R. Martin delivered layered mythos and compelling environmental storytelling, captivating both mainstream audiences and longtime fans. Players enjoyed freedom in building characters and approaching whichever challenges they wanted, making failure a learning process rather than a deterrent.

Viral community engagement, speedruns, and player sharing all helped to increased sales. Elden Ring became a massive success, it sold more than 30 million copies globally, making it FromSoftwareโ€™s biggest hit and one of the best-selling games ever.

The Elden ring franchise is uncertain as Miyazaki stated that FromSoftware is not currently considering Elden Ring 2 as a new project. But there could be similar games that can come to life as FromSoftware has a history in making amazing Soulslike games.

Number 2: Witcher 3

Witcher 3 development began in 2011, eventually involving more than 1,500 individuals worldwide, with CD Projekt Red investing roughly $81 million over three and a half years. The project aimed to break away from the previous linear structure, using new technology (the RedEngine) and allowing the series to transition into a fully open world inspired by Central and Northern European cultures. The game was scripted in both Polish and English and featured an extensive voice cast, resulting in one of the largest and most intricate RPG developments in modern gaming.

The Witcher 3 is renowned for its complex, morally ambiguous storylines and quests, with choices that meaningfully impact the world and tone of the game. Its world design rivals or surpasses other major open-world games, blending meaningful content with compelling exploration and immersion. The voice acting, graphics, and soundtrack contributed to immersive storytelling and character development. Hefty expansions (Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine), steady updates, and a healthy modding kept the player base active for years.

Witcher 3 holds more than 200 game of the year awards and has been cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. Over 60 million units sold and $700 million in revenue placing it as one of the best RPGs ever made.

Witcher 4 has a very exciting future, CD Projekt Red has confirmed a Witcher 4 starring Ciri, marking the start of a new saga and trilogy. Im so excited to play it.

Number 1: The last of us

The Last of Us is an action-adventure video game series and media franchise created by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic United States ravaged by cannibalistic humans infected by a mutated fungus in the genus Cordyceps. It follows several survivors, in the first game the main protagonists were Joel, a smuggler who lost his daughter during the outbreak and Ellie, a young girl who is immune to the infection. In second game it was Ellie and Abby who you play as.

The last of us is a very successful franchise. The Key Reasons for Success are:
โ€ขEmotional Storytelling: The game set a high bar for storytelling in games, focusing on complex relationships, moral dilemmas, and realistic portrayals of trauma and survival, particularly the bond between Joel and Ellie.
โ€ขStrong Character Development: The writing and voice acting provided deep, believable protagonists and memorable supporting characters, making their journeys deeply personal for players.
โ€ขImmersive Atmosphere: Rich environmental design, haunting music, and detailed worldbuilding heightened the sense of realism and emotional gravity, turning settings into powerful narrative tools.
โ€ขGameplay and Narrative Integration: The Last of Us combined stealth, combat, and resource management mechanics in a way that reinforced the narrative themes of desperation and resilience.

The last of us series has sold more than 40 million units and grossed over $1 billion. The series was so successful that a tv adaptation was made which was a big success too.

The Last of us future is uncertain as Druckmann had this to say: โ€œFor years now, I haven’t been able to find that concept, but recently, that’s changed, and I don’t have a story, but I do have that concept that to me is as exciting as 1, as exciting as 2, is its own thing, and yet has this throughline for all three. So it does feel like there’s probably one more chapter to this story.” but he also said before that fans should not expect a part 3. But there is a likely chance that there is another last of us game.
