Nintendo has announced plans to acquire Bandai Namco Studios Singapore (BNSS) as part of an effort to reinforce its internal development capabilities.

Under the deal, BNSS will become a Nintendo subsidiary and will continue producing games under the new name Nintendo Studios Singapore. Nintendo will initially acquire 80% of the studio’s shares on April 1, 2026, with plans to purchase the remaining 20% once the subsidiary’s operations have stabilized.

BNSS has previously worked closely with Nintendo, contributing to Splatoon 3 through concept art, character and environment modelling, and animation. The studio has also supported major franchises such as Ace Combat and Tekken.

In a statement published on Nintendo’s investor website, the company described BNSS as an overseas Bandai Namco Group studio with strong expertise in creating in-game art assets. The release noted that BNSS has contributed to multiple Nintendo titles, including the Splatoon series, and has maintained an ongoing business relationship with Nintendo—factors that led to the acquisition decision in order to strengthen Nintendo Group’s development structure.

The move follows Nintendo’s recent establishment of a local Singapore entity aimed at accelerating its business across Southeast Asia. Nintendo added that the acquisition is expected to have only a minor impact on its financial results for the current fiscal year.

As for what the newly named Nintendo Studios Singapore is currently developing, no details have been disclosed. However, given its history, it is reasonable to speculate that the team may again be supporting Splatoon, particularly with the newly announced Splatoon: Raiders for Switch 2.
