Nintendo will acquire Bandai Namco Studios Singapore (BNSS) to strengthen its development structure.
The Japanese company said BNSS will become a subsidiary of Nintendo and continue developing video games under the new name Nintendo Studios Singapore.ย
Initially, Nintendo will purchase 80% of Bandai Namco Sinapore Studio shares on April 1, 2026. It then plans to acquire the remaining 20% of shares ย “once the subsidiary’s operations have stabilised.””
BNSS previously collaborated with Nintendo on Splatoon 3 by assisting with concept art, character modelling, environment modelling, and animation. It has also worked on other major franchises such as Ace Combat and Tekken.ย
“BNSS was established as one of Bandai Namco Groupโs overseas bases and is a development company with strong expertise in creating in-game art assets. It has contributed to the development of Nintendo titles, including the Splatoon series, and has an ongoing business relationship with Nintendo,” reads a brief press release on the Nintendo investor website.ย
“Considering this business record, Nintendo has made the decision to acquire shares in BNSS to strengthen the development structure of the Nintendo Group.”ย
Nintendo recently opened a new local entity in Singapore to accelerate its business in Southeast Asia. The company said the acquisition will only have a minor effect on its results for the current fiscal year.ย
As for Bandai Namco Studios Singapore โ or rather, Nintendo Studios Singapore โ it’s unknown what the company is working on now. A fair estimate can be that its team may be assisting development on Splatoon once again, with the upcoming mysterious Splatoon: Raiders now announced for Switch 2.
